From your Mac
Sendoff vs AirDrop.
They solve different problems. AirDrop is for someone nearby. Sendoff is for the people you send to every week, wherever they are.
How AirDrop works
AirDrop sends a file straight to a nearby iPhone, iPad or Mac. Both devices need Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and need to be within about 30 feet (10 meters). On your Mac, select the file, click Share, choose AirDrop, then pick the person. They accept it. On a Mac, it usually lands in Downloads.
When AirDrop is the better choice
- The person is in the same room, on an Apple device.
- You’re moving something to your own iPhone or iPad. Signed in to the same Apple Account, it’s accepted automatically.
- The file is huge, like a long video. No email attachment limit applies.
- You don’t need a record of it in a mail or message thread.
When Sendoff is the better choice
- The person isn’t nearby: your accountant across town, your teammate in another city.
- They aren’t on Apple. Sendoff can send by Gmail.
- You want it in a thread you can find later: their inbox and your Sent folder, or your Messages conversation.
- You send to the same few people often. Sendoff puts them at the top and remembers how you reach each one.
Using both
Most people will. AirDrop the photos to the person sitting next to you. Send the invoice to your accountant from the notch: drop it, pick them, press Send off.
