From your Mac
Send a file by iMessage from your Mac.
Messages on your Mac sends documents, photos and videos, not just texts. Here are three ways to do it.
Before you start
Sign in to Messages on your Mac with your Apple Account. The person you’re sending to needs iMessage too.
Drag it into a conversation
- Open Messages and pick the conversation, say with your mom.
- Drag the file from Finder or the desktop into the message field.
- Press Return.
Paste it
Select the file in Finder, press ⌘C, click in the message field and press ⌘V. Then press Return.
Use Share in Finder
Select the file, click the Share button in the Finder toolbar, choose Messages, then type the person’s name. If the file is on the desktop, Control-click it and choose Share.
Sent it to the wrong person?
On macOS Ventura or later, you can unsend an iMessage for up to two minutes. Control-click it and choose Undo Send. If the other person’s devices run older software, they may still see it.
The faster way: Sendoff
Sendoff is a Mac app that lives in the notch. Drag the file up, pick your mom, press Send off. It sends through Messages on your Mac, with no relay of its own. It ranks the people you send to most and remembers who gets iMessage and who gets Gmail. It’s all keyboard if you want it, with a three-second undo.
