From your Mac
Send a file from your Mac to an Android phone.
AirDrop and iMessage stop at Apple devices. These ways reach anyone.
Email it
Email works on every phone. In Finder, Control-click the file, choose Share, then Mail. Or open Gmail in your browser, click Compose and drag the file into the message.
Gmail attachments top out at 25 MB. Over that, Gmail offers to send a Google Drive link instead.
Share a Google Drive link
For big files, go to drive.google.com, drag the file in, then click Share. Add their email address, or set the link so anyone with it can view, and copy it. Paste the link into a text or email. Most Android phones already have Drive.
Text it through Messages
If you have an iPhone, your Mac can send SMS, MMS or RCS texts to Android phones too, using Text Message Forwarding. Your iPhone and Mac need to be signed in to the same Apple Account and using iMessage, and your iPhone needs to be on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular. Availability varies by carrier and region.
- On your Mac, open Messages, choose Messages > Settings, click iMessage and make sure you're signed in.
- On your iPhone, open Settings, tap Apps, then tap Messages and make sure iMessage is on.
- Tap Send & Receive and check that the Apple Account shown is the same one you use on your Mac. Then go back.
- Tap Text Message Forwarding, then turn on your Mac in the list of devices. If a verification code appears, enter it on your iPhone.
If you use Messages in iCloud, Text Message Forwarding is built in, so you don't need to turn it on separately. To send the file, open the conversation in Messages on your Mac, drag the file into the message field (or copy and paste it), then press Return.
Texts to Android phones show up as green bubbles and go as RCS or SMS/MMS, not iMessage. RCS, where your carrier supports it, can send high-resolution photos and videos. If a message goes by MMS, carriers may compress photos and videos, so they can arrive at a lower quality. For anything where quality matters, use email or a Drive link.
Send it to the same person every week with Sendoff
Sendoff is a Mac app that lives in the notch. Drag the file up to the notch, pick the person, press Send off. It remembers that your Android friend gets Gmail, so you don't choose each time, and you get three seconds to undo.
