MacBook notch apps: what the notch can do.
The notch can be more than the camera. Here are the main kinds of notch apps, what each one is good at, and where Sendoff fits.
Where to find them
notch.macmenubar.com lists more than 100 apps built for the MacBook notch, sorted by category. It’s the best place to browse. Below are a few from each category, with details from each app’s own site.
Music and a Dynamic Island
- Boring Notch: open source. Music controls with a visualizer, plus calendar, a file shelf with AirDrop, and a full replacement for the macOS HUD. Needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
- Alcove: a Dynamic Island for your Mac, with notifications, Live Activities, swipe gestures, custom HUDs and Lock Screen widgets. Needs macOS 15 or later.
- Tilora: music, meetings, calls, downloads and clipboard history in the notch, plus step-by-step progress from Claude Code or Codex.
A shelf for files
- NotchDrop: drag files to the notch and open AirDrop from there. Files stay on the shelf for a day by default, and you can change that. Open source, and on the Mac App Store.
- Ledge: turns the notch into a shelf you hand off from to any app or folder. It changes what it hands over to suit where you drop it: a screenshot dropped on a terminal becomes its file path. Needs macOS 14 or later.
Notes and clipboard
- NotchPad: notes, clipboard history and reusable snippets from the notch.
For one specific job
- Textream: an open-source teleprompter around the notch. It scrolls while you speak and pauses when you stop.
- Super Notch: your Claude Code, Codex and Cursor sessions in one view, so you can pick one up from the notch. Needs Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later.
Or hide the notch
- TopNotch: makes the notch disappear. It works with Dynamic Desktop wallpapers and multiple displays. Needs macOS 11 or later.
Where Sendoff fits
Shelf apps hold a file until you’re ready. Sendoff sends it to a person. Drop a file on the notch, pick the person, press Send off.
- Your regulars come first, ranked by how often you send to them: your accountant, your teammate, your mom.
- It remembers how you reach each one, by Gmail or iMessage. Slack is coming soon.
- It routes around what won’t work. A 48 MB video for someone you usually email goes by iMessage instead.
- It’s all keyboard, with 3 seconds to undo.
Sendoff works alongside a shelf or music app. If you’re weighing it against what your Mac already does, see Sendoff vs AirDrop, Sendoff vs the Share menu and Sendoff vs Gmail drag and drop.
