From your Mac
Customize the Share menu on your Mac.
The Share menu lists AirDrop, Mail, Messages and any apps that add themselves. You choose which ones show up.
Open the Share menu
In Finder or an app, select one or more items, then click the Share button in the toolbar. If the item is on the desktop, Control-click it and choose Share. The options depend on what you’re sharing.
Add or remove items
- Open System Settings and click General in the sidebar.
- Click Login Items & Extensions.
- Under Extensions, click By Category, then click the button next to Sharing.
- Turn on the extensions you want in the Share menu, and turn off the ones you don’t.
- Click Done.
Shortcut: open the Share menu and choose Edit Extensions to jump to the same place.
Add another app
Apps can add their own sharing extensions. Install the app, from the Mac App Store for example, then turn its extension on in the Sharing list above. After that, it shows up in the Share menu.
Turned on, but not showing?
Then whatever you’ve selected can’t be shared with that extension. Apple’s example: in Safari you can AirDrop a webpage, but not selected text.
Sharing photos? Pick the format
When you share a .heic photo, click Options, then the Format pop-up menu. Choose Most Compatible to allow conversion to .jpeg, .png and H.264, which helps when the person isn’t on an Apple device. Choose Current to keep the original format. See Send photos and files from your Mac to Android.
Sending to the same people every day?
The Share menu starts with the app, then makes you find the person. Sendoff starts with the person. It’s a Mac app that lives in the notch: drop a file, type “acc” for your accountant, press Enter, Enter. It remembers whether each person gets Gmail or iMessage, and you have 3 seconds to undo. More in Sendoff vs the Mac Share menu.
