From your Mac
WeTransfer alternatives for Mac.
WeTransfer is a quick way to hand off a big file. When its limits get in the way, your Mac already has good options. Details are from each company's help pages, checked October 27, 2026.
The short answer
- Google Drive link when the file should stay shared until you stop it.
- Mail Drop when you’re emailing from Apple Mail anyway.
- Blip for huge files and folders, when the other person can install an app.
- Gmail for anything up to 25 MB. Over that, it swaps in a Drive link for you.
- Sendoff for the few people you send to every week. More below.
Why people look for an alternative
On WeTransfer’s free plan, its help center says a transfer stays up for at most 3 days, and its plan limits allow 10 transfers or 3 GB in any rolling 30 days. If you need more than that, or a link that lasts, one of these may suit you better.
Google Drive
Upload the file at drive.google.com, click Share, then add people by email or set General access to “Anyone with the link” and copy the link. Google says anyone with that link can open the file without signing in to a Google Account.
- Size: files up to 5 TB. Your Google Account includes up to 15 GB of storage, shared with Gmail and Google Photos.
- How long: until you change the sharing or delete the file.
- Keep in mind: work or school accounts may limit sharing outside the organization.
Mail Drop
Built into Apple Mail. When an attachment is over your email provider’s limit, Mail offers to send it with Mail Drop, which uploads it to iCloud and sends a link.
- Size: up to 5 GB per message, and it doesn’t count against your iCloud storage.
- How long: the link lasts 30 days.
- Keep in mind: you need to be signed in to your Apple Account, and folders have to be compressed first. If it won’t send, see Mail Drop not working?
Blip
Blip is an app that sends files and folders of any size straight to another person, with no zipping. It resumes if the connection drops, and transfers are end-to-end encrypted.
- Keep in mind: there are no web links. You send to other Blip users, so the other person needs the app too.
Gmail
For a personal account, Gmail attaches files up to 25 MB. Over that, it removes the attachment and adds a Google Drive link instead. See Gmail attachment size limit.
Without email?
A Drive link can go anywhere you can paste it, like a group chat. Blip sends to the person’s app, not their inbox. Mail Drop and Gmail both need an email.
Deciding between the two most common? See WeTransfer vs Google Drive. For every option by who gets the file, see Send large files from your Mac. If a Drive link won’t open for them, see Google Drive says “You need access”.
Where Sendoff fits
Sendoff doesn’t make transfer links. It’s a Mac app that lives in the notch and sends a file to the people you send to most, by Gmail or iMessage. Drop it, pick the person, press Send off.
- Your regulars come first: your accountant, your teammate, your mom.
- It remembers whether each one gets Gmail or iMessage.
- It routes around what won’t work: a 48 MB video for someone you usually email goes by iMessage instead.
- It’s all keyboard, with 3 seconds to undo.
