From your Mac
Unsend or edit a message on your Mac.
Sent it to the wrong person, or spotted a typo? Messages on your Mac gives you 2 minutes to unsend an iMessage and 15 minutes to edit it.
Unsend a message
- Open Messages and select the conversation.
- Control-click the message or attachment.
- Choose Undo Send.
You have up to 2 minutes after sending. A note that you unsent a message shows up in both your conversation and theirs. This works for photos and files you sent too, not just text.
Edit a sent message
- Select the conversation.
- Control-click the message and choose Edit, or press Command-E.
- Make your changes, then press Return.
You can edit a message up to five times within 15 minutes. It’s marked Edited, and both of you can click Edited to see earlier versions.
What you need
- iMessage. You can’t unsend or edit SMS, MMS or RCS texts, the green bubbles.
- macOS Ventura (13) or later on your Mac.
- Newer software on their end. If their device runs iOS 15.6, macOS 12 or earlier, the original message stays in their conversation, and Messages warns you they may still see it. Edits arrive as a follow-up starting “Edited to”.
Don’t see Undo Send?
The 2 minutes may be up, or it went as a green-bubble text. Either way, send a quick follow-up. If texts from your Mac aren’t going through at all, see Messages not sending on your Mac?
